One Day Workshops
Our one-day beginner workshops offers a hands-on introduction to traditional drystone walling techniques. Participants will learn how to select and prepare stone, set foundations, build to line and batter, and understand the structural principles behind a well-built wall. Working in small groups, you’ll gain practical experience building a section of wall from the ground up using traditional methods and tools. The course is suitable for complete beginners as well as those looking to refresh or develop their skills.

Two Day Workshops
Our two-day intensive beginner workshops offers a comprehensive, hands-on introduction to traditional drystone walling techniques. Participants will learn how to select and prepare stone, set foundations, build to line and batter, and understand the structural principles behind a well-built wall. Working in small groups, you’ll gain practical experience building a section of wall from the ground up using traditional methods and tools. The extended two-day format allows for deeper skill development, including corners, ends, and structural detailing, giving you a more complete understanding of wall construction. The course is suitable for complete beginners as well as those looking to refresh or develop their skills further.

Advanced Skills & Feature Builds
These workshops focus on more advanced skills and feature builds within traditional drystone walling. Rather than a standard straight wall, each session centres around a specific project such as retaining walls, stone cairns, stiles, gateways or pillars. The duration of each workshop varies depending on the scale and type of build, allowing enough time to complete a well-constructed feature using traditional methods and tools. Working in small groups, you’ll gain hands-on experience setting out, building for strength and stability, and adapting techniques to suit more complex structures. These sessions provide a deeper understanding of how drystone principles are applied beyond standard walling. Although these workshops involve more detailed builds, they remain suitable for complete beginners as well as those looking to expand their skills and take on more involved projects.
